Hey there! Well… Two of my really good friends (Liz and Dan) and I saw you in Richmond in the beginning of the summer. It was one of the most magical shows ever. It was Dan’s last night before moving out to Colorado and emotions were all over the place. I had just moved back to Virginia after a very intense, emotional, and crazy few months of living in Pennsylvania. The summer was off to a shaky start. I knew I needed to end up somewhere other than Virginia, but wasn’t for certain when or where. While Liz, Dan, and I were at that show, we felt like we were the only ones in the crowd. I have never felt so engrossed in a show. I also knew the kids from Norfolk that are referenced in The Reason, so hearing that song played in Richmond, surrounded by people who relate was one of the most incredible experiences ever. I spoke with Ryan for a little bit after the show and I hold our conversation pretty dear. I am sure he thought I was crazy as I approached him teary-eyed and hardly able to introduce myself, but we had soul talk and I’m thankful for that. I know it probably sounds weird, but that night is when I decided that I was going to make the 3,000 mile, cross country move to Portland, OR. We sent Dan on his way to Colorado and headed back to Norfolk to try and combat the days to come. It wasn’t very long before you lovely people announced tour dates in DC, NYC, and Philly. Oh, and they happened to be just a few days before I was leaving the east coast to make a place for myself in Portland. Liz, Dan (who since moved back from Colorado), and I immediately decided that we would be in attendance at those shows. It would be our epic trip before I headed west. We bought tickets for the DC show, but the NYC show sold out and the Philly show was cancelled. We didn’t care. We were going to make the trip and hope it all worked out. The show in DC was nothing short of amazing. The next day, we headed to NYC. We mozied around in the chilly rain hoping that we would somehow make it into the show that evening. We managed to buy one ticket and held a sign up hoping to find two more. That’s when you guys rolled up. I managed to ever so awkwardly ask Ryan if you guys could possibly help us out with getting in. Sure enough, you came through and into the show we went. We met some really awesome people and had a blast. It was an amazing trip with some of my favorite people ever. I can’t explain how it feels to hear The Reason live. It touches my heart so much – all of your music does. People always talk about the connections they feel to music and how much it has seen them through. I never doubted that, just didn’t quite understand it myself until certain life happenings. You guys are wonderful and sing songs that really mean something. Thanks for being awesome. I hope to see you in Portland sometime. Keep on keepin’ on.
